Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

The hyperbaric oxygen chamber installed at HealthPark Hospital is the first in Hot Springs. Hyberbaric oxygen therapy consists of placing the patient in a chamber where they breathe 100% oxygen pressurized to 2-3 times normal. The extra oxygen helps to reduce inflammation, promote healing and improve the blood supply to the affected areas.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is prescribed by physicians for a wide variety of conditions, including: bone infection, cyanide poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning, crush injuries, decompression sickness, some foot ulcers, gas gangrene, problem wounds, failed skin flaps, radiation therapy complications, and compromised skin grafts.

Hyperbaric therapy is administered in the presence of a specially-trained physician. If prescribed appropriately, the treatment is covered by traditional insurance, Medicare and Medicaid.
